As a post script it is worth noting that Hilary Coupland, the Choir Master, in greeting Syrian Violinist Sari Alesh, concluded her welcome with the very first public declaration of the Salish Sea Bioregional Marine Sanctuary Vision :
“Today on July 1, 2017, Canada’s 50th Birthday, we the people of Canada gathered here today, promise to work diligently to Restore Natural Animal Populations throughout the Salish Sea Bioregion to more than 50% of historic levels as soon as possible”
Surely this is one of the major goals for Canada as we begin the next fifty years.

It was also the location of Sealand where humans first realized that keeping ORCAs in captivity was inconsistent with the emerging human spirit.
BRING LOLITA HOME
As the World Spotlight is on Canada we are happy to do our little bit to also share this attention with “Tokitae/Lolita” and the “Bring Lolita Home” movement who are campaigning this month to bring Lolita home to Friday Harbour from a pen in Miami.
We will be delighted to have a local activist Diane McNally who has been working diligently to “Bring Lolita Home” : She writes :
I’m in Victoria by the Cook St Village 🙂
I’ve been sending letters for 8 years to the Miami Seaquarium, about 120 each year and getting signatures on letters and mailing them myself to the MSQ / Parques Reunidos etc.
This June was my 2nd year at Fernfest with info and letters.
I had a display at the central Library all month, and did an orca hat for kids event there.
This was my second year petitioning Victoria City council to proclaim Orca Month in the City of Victoria. Success x2 🙂
I’ve been published in the TC quite a few times re orcas over the years, last on “Stalking Orcas” re give it up with the whale watching, in a few days ago in Comment.
